§ The MINISTER of LABOUR (Dr. Macnamara)The average weekly amount paid in unemployment benefit and dependants' grants in Great Britain and Southern Ireland for the four weeks ending 22nd February was £1,298,000, between a fourth and a fifth of which falls upon the Exchequer. I am informed by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Health that figures are not available showing the weekly expenditure of the boards of guardians on relief of unemployment as distinct from the total expenditure on relief of the poor.
