HC Deb 13 March 1922 vol 151 c1746
8. Mr. HANNON

asked the President of the Board of Trade why the accounts relating to trade and navigation of the United Kingdom for the month of January, 1922, were issued to the Press on 11th February and were not supplied to Members of Parliament until 4th March?

Mr. YOUNG

I have been asked to reply. The accounts relating to trade and navigation of the United Kingdom are published by the Stationery Office monthly. Distribution to Members of Parliament is not made until the House of Commons orders the Returns to be printed. This order is given early in each Session and covers the issue for the whole of the calendar year. The period which elapses between the date of publication and the date on which copies are made available to Members depends, therefore, upon

  1. (a) how early in the year the new Session begins;
  2. (b) how soon thereafter the House orders the Returns to be printed;
  3. (c) the short time required to print the new title page.
The order to print for the present year was given on 27th February.
