HC Deb 13 March 1922 vol 151 c1774
60. Major KELLEY

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport whether he can give any information concerning the condition and future of the Sheffield canal?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Mr. Neal)

I have no special information on the points raised by the hon. and gallant Member. The Sheffield canal forms part of the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation, which, in common with canals generally, carried less traffic last year than in 1920, owing to the abnormal depression of trade, and, in particular, to the occurrence of the coal stoppage.
