HC Deb 13 March 1922 vol 151 cc1750-1
27. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been called to a recent judicial pronouncement to the effect that workers defending, their industrial rights by picketing may be involved in proceedings for contempt of Court; and whether, since this goes to the root of the Trade Disputes Act and makes peaceful picketing illegal, what steps he proposes to take to restore trades union rights?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Shortt)

I have been asked to reply to this question. I have seen a newspaper report of the case to which the hon. and gallant Member no doubt refers, but I do not think the import of the remark made by the learned judge is such as the question indicates.
