§ 27. Colonel WEDGWOODasked the Prime Minister whether his attention has 1751 been called to a recent judicial pronouncement to the effect that workers defending, their industrial rights by picketing may be involved in proceedings for contempt of Court; and whether, since this goes to the root of the Trade Disputes Act and makes peaceful picketing illegal, what steps he proposes to take to restore trades union rights?
§ The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Shortt)I have been asked to reply to this question. I have seen a newspaper report of the case to which the hon. and gallant Member no doubt refers, but I do not think the import of the remark made by the learned judge is such as the question indicates.
