§ 65. Mr. KENNEDYasked the Home Secretary if he is aware that Mr. F. A. Szarvassy, an alien enemy subject, was not interned during the period of the War; that he retained his position as a director of the British, Foreign, and Colonial Corporation, Limited, of 57, Bishopsgate, London, during that period, and had, in that capacity, full information regarding the movement of vessels belonging to shipping companies with which the British, Foreign, and Colonial Corporation was associated; and if he can state any reason for the exemption of this alien 1483 from the scope of the Defence of the Realm Act?
§ Mr. SHORTTMr. Szarvassy, who is now a British subject, was exempted from internment as an alien enemy in 1915 on the recommendation of the Advisory Committee after full consideration. I have no doubt that they had good reasons, though I have no record of them, for considering that he might be so exempted without danger to the Realm. He retained his position as a director of the British, Foreign and Colonial Corporation, Limited, but I have no knowledge of the information to which in that capacity he may have had access.
