§ 5. Colonel Sir C. YATE
asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland on what terms the civilian artificers engaged under contract for service in Ireland have been disbanded?
§ The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Sir Hamar Greenwood)
I assume my hon. and gallant Friend is referring to mechanics temporarily engaged in the Royal Irish Constabulary for service in the Mechanical Transport Division. Civilian artificers whose yearly contracts had not expired at the date of dispersal are receiving pay to the end of the period for which they contracted to serve together with the bounty of £25 for each year of completed service. Those who at the expiration of their contracts accepted a monthly engagement receive a month's pay in lieu of notice, and a bounty calculated at the rate of £25 per annum, or the sum of £20, whichever is the greater. Those on a weekly engagement receive a week's pay in lieu of 1459 notice, and a bounty at the rate of £25 or the sum of £10 if greater.
