§ 61. Mr. ROSEasked the Minister of Health if his attention has been directed to the wages now being paid by private contractors to workmen engaged in laying out new playing fields at Hilton, Aberdeen, viz., 10¼d. per hour, or 75 per cent. of the standard rate; whether such payment is an infraction of Clause (3) of 1278 Circular 1,776; and, if so, will he instruct that the contractors in question should be called upon to conform to the terms of the said circular?
§ Mr. PRATT (Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Health, Scotland)I have been asked to reply to this question. The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. As regards the two remaining parts, the circular referred to does not lay down any requirements as to the rate of wages in the case of schemes carried out by ordinary contract.
