Mr. KENNEDYasked the Secretary of State for India if certain firms, including the Roperie and Sailcloth Company, of Bath Street, Leith, were recently invited to quote for the supply of goods to the India Office; if any of the offers sent in have been accepted; and, if not, whether he will consider the desirability of coming to an early decision on the offers sent in, in view of the great amount of unemployment in the industry concerned?
§ Mr. MONTAGUI am informed by the High Commissioner for India, with whom the matter rests, that certain firms including the Edinburgh Roperie and Sailcloth Company, Limited, of Bath Street, Leith, were recently invited to tender for the supply of sail canvas, required by the Government of India, and that as a result the contracts were duly let on the 1st February last.
