§ 21. Viscount WOLMERasked the Secretary of State for War whether the Navy, Army, and Air Force Institutes have lent the sum of £14,730, secured by a mortgage, to the Schools and Services Supplies, Limited; and, if so, whether, since it appears that the business of financiers or moneylenders is to be added to the activities already undertaken by the Navy, Army, and Air Force Institutes, he will state the reason for this loan and how much money has been similarly lent by the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes?
§ Sir R. SANDERSI understand that the Navy, Army, and Air Force Institutes, in selling a warehouse, have allowed part of the purchase money to remain on mortgage. Such an arrangement is obviously legitimate, and gives rise to no question of public interest or 1051 of policy. I am therefore not prepared to accede to my Noble Friend's desire that the matter should be further pursued.
§ Viscount WOLMERWill the hon. Gentleman tell me how many other mortgages the Navy, Army, and Air Force Institutes have on hand?
§ Sir R. SANDERSObviously I could not answer that question without notice.
§ Viscount WOLMERThe information is asked for at the end of my question, and surely we are entitled to have an answer.
§ Sir W. DAVISONWill the hon. Gentleman ask the War Office representative on this Board when their accounts will be published?
§ Sir R. SANDERSI must ask for notice of that question.
