§ 72. Mr. GILBERTasked the Home Secretary if there is any difference of powers for police purposes in London between the Metropolitan and the City Police Forces; are their powers equal in all parts of the Metropolitan area or are the powers of the City police purely limited to the. City Corporation area; and would they be inoperative outside in the case of any crime?
§ Mr. SHORTTThe powers of the two Police Forces are similar, and in most points identical. Normally each Force acts within its own area; but each Force can execute warrants in the area of the other, and in an emergency each Force can be authorised to act for the maintenance of order in the area of the other. At all times the two Forces maintain close co-operation for the detection of crime.
