Sir CHARLES HIGHAMasked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the unemployment in this country, the Board of Trade will take steps to see that, as far as possible, only materials made in the United Kingdom will be purchased by Government Departments and used in State-aided relief work, and that instructions be given to this effect and no imported materials be used without first obtaining official sanction from the Board of Trade?
§ Mr. BALDWINI have no power to interfere with the exercise by other Departments of State of complete discretion as regards any expenditure of public money for which they are responsible, and I do not think the suggestion contained in the last part of the question is practicable.
