NORTON-GRIFFITHSasked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the great prestige of British insurance in general, both at home and abroad, very special steps will be taken to obtain and publish a more complete report upon the special causes which are stated to have produced the sudden collapse of the City Equitable Fire Insurance Company, Limited, and its allied companies; and whether he is in a position to state that these causes are entirely foreign to the ordinary risks of insurance business?
§ Mr. BALDWINA full investigation is being made by the Official Receiver regarding the causes which have resulted in the failure of the City Equitable Fire Insurance Company, Limited, and a report will be made when the investigation has been completed. Meantime, I am not in a position to add anything to the statement which appeared in the Press on the 27th February.
