asked the Secretary of State for War how much the British garrison in India is now below strength; and what steps are being taken to bring it up to strength?

The shortage is approximately 5,900 other ranks. In order to meet it as far as possible, soldiers of the Irish battalions in India which are to be relieved with a view to disbandment will be given the opportunity of transferring to units remaining in India.
