HC Deb 01 March 1922 vol 151 cc366-7
30. Mr. T. THOMSON

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the present system of local rating is inequitable both in form and incidence; and when he proposes to introduce the Government's Bill to deal with this question, which was foreshadowed by his predecessor in office?

Sir A. MOND

I agree with the hon. Member that the existing system of rating and valuation is in need of reform, but I cannot at present say whether it will be practicable to introduce legislation on this subject during the current Session.

Mr. THOMSON

How soon will it be practicable to introduce this long-promised reform?

Sir RYLAND ADKINS

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider whether it will be possible to introduce the Bill for the purpose of having it printed and brought to the notice of the public, even if it is not probable that it can be proceeded with before the end of this Session?

Sir A. MOND

I will consider both those suggestions, but the Bill is not yet drafted.
