§ 32. Mr. G. BARKERasked the Minister of Health if it is proposed to close down at the end of March next the office of the Housing Commissioner for Wales and Monmouthshire which, since its establishment, has been attached to the Welsh Board of Health at Cardiff, and has during a very difficult period carried out with success the onerous duties connected with the Government housing scheme in Wales; is he aware that this alleged proposal is strongly resented and is viewed as a retrograde step which would seriously impair the work of the Ministry in relation to housing, and would not result in any real saving of public money owing to the extra time and trouble involved in all negotiations having to be carried on through London and the expenses of deputations visiting the Ministry of Health in London instead of interviewing the Commissioners at Cardiff; and will he advise the Government to reconsider its decision?
