HC Deb 08 February 1922 vol 150 c134
Lieut.-Colonel ARCHER-SHEE

(by Private Notice) asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland (1) whether he is aware that a cheque for £25 10s., on His Majesty's Service drawn on the Bank of Ireland by the Paymaster, Depot Company, Auxiliary Division, R.I.C., in favour of Mr. L. J. Leipold, late Z Company, for his pay on disbandment, after deducting Income Tax, and for which Mr. Leipold gave a receipt at Beggars Bush on the 23rd January, has been dishonoured by the Bank of Ireland; (2) whether he can say whether this matter will be immediately rectified, and whether there are any other outstanding cheques paid to ex-members of the Auxiliary Division, which will not be honoured on presentation; and (3) whether he is aware of the great inconvenience and hardship to these officers, caused by the carelessness shown in this case, in view of the fact that they in turn are liable to have their own cheques dishonoured, which they have drawn against the amounts in anticipation of the Government's cheque being honoured?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Colonel Sir Hamar Greenwood)

I regret that a number of cheques drawn in favour of members of the Auxiliary Division were, through an oversight in the demobilisation arrangements, returned to the payee. Steps were at once taken to rectify this error
