HC Deb 26 April 1922 vol 153 cc548-9
27. Sir H. BRITTAIN

asked the Postmaster-General whether he can give the average saving of time effected in transmitting a parcel from London to Paris, or vice versa, by air instead of by rail and boat?

Mr. KELLAWAY

The time which elapses between despatch and delivery of parcels sent to Paris by air is from one to two days. The time varies in accordance with the time taken by the French Customs to scrutinise the parcels. In the ordinary service, the time taken is seven days. The average saving of time is therefore about five and a half days.

Sir H. BRITTAIN

Is the right hon. Gentleman doing anything to let the public know the great saving of time in making use of this service?

Mr. KELLAWAY

I am assisting my hon. Friend by giving him this information, but I will see whether further steps can be taken.

Sir H. BRITTAIN

Will the right hon. Gentleman follow up these further steps as rapidly as possible?
