GRIFFITHSasked the Minister of Health whether, in connection with a scheme for relief work under the St. Austell Rural District Council, he is aware that, although the men employed, being clay workers, are experienced in pick and shovel work the local authority have not received permission to pay the district rate of wages; and whether he will make inquiries into this matter and authorise payment of the full rate?
§ The MINISTER of HEALTH (Sir Alfred Mond)I am sending the hon. Member a copy of correspondence between the district council and the Unemployment Grants Committee, from which ho will see that men certified by the council's surveyor as coming within the meaning of a skilled man employed at his own trade or a qualified navvy may receive the full rate of wages.
