Colonel NEWMANasked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that the Board of Education as at present constituted is obsolete, redundant, and is never summoned to transact business; and whether, having regard to the great sum of money expended by the taxpayer and ratepayer on public education, he will cause to be created a Board of Education charged with the duty of seeing that the money devoted to free education is spent in the best possible manner to obtain the results aimed at?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINLegislation would be required to alter the constitution of the Board, and if legislation be undertaken, the precedents point in the direction of the substitution of a Ministry for a Board.
