HC Deb 26 May 1921 vol 142 cc312-3
51. Colonel Sir C. YATE

asked the President of the Board of Education whether out of the 11 inspectors of physical education appointed by the Board of Education eight are women; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to place men in charge of the physical education of boys?

Mr. LEWIS

Seven of the 11 inspectors of physical training are women. My right hon. Friend does not see his way to increase the establishment by the appointment of additional men inspectors.

Sir C. YATE

What is the use of women training boys of 12 and 14 years? By appointing women to train boys in physical education is the Department not likely to reduce the whole of this physical training to ridicule?

Mr. SPEAKER

It would take half a day to answer that question.
