HC Deb 24 May 1921 vol 142 cc17-8
36. Mr. KENNEDY

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that a number of town and county councils in the West of Scotland are in need of road material and are desirous of opening quarries for this purpose providing the necessary transport facilities can be arranged; and whether, in view of the fact that the opening of these quarries would find work for a large number of men at present out of employment, he will have inquiries made into the matter?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Mr. Neal)

I am aware that certain local authorities in the West of Scotland are desirous of opening quarries, but I do not think that any difficulties with regard to transport have been brought to the notice of my right hon. Friend, the Minister of Transport. Under the present abnormal conditions, transport restrictions may of necessity have to be imposed; but if Scottish local authorities find any difficulty, I shall be glad to institute inquiries into individual cases as they arise.
