BARTONasked the Chief Secretary in how many counties in Ireland is the use of bicycles now prohibited; whether this prohibition affects all the inhabitants or merely those who are suspected of having Sinn Fein sympathies; and whether the same prohibition applies to the use of motor cars in the districts concerned?
§ Mr. HENRYThe use of motor cars, motor cycles, and pedal cycles between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. in the martial law area was forbidden by a Proclamation on the 7th January last, and in certain districts cycles have been prohibited entirely. As regards counties outside the martial law area, the use of motor cars, motor cycles, and pedal cycles is forbidden during curfew hours in Carlow, Queen's County, Westmeath, Roscommon, Longford, Leitrim, Sligo, and the Dunlavin district of Wicklow. Similar prohibition is now to be enforced around Athlone. Pedal bicycles are totally prohibited in King's County and within a radius of 10 miles from Westport, Castle-bar, Foxford, and Gort.
