HC Deb 20 June 1921 vol 143 c893
69. Sir J. D. REES

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether repayment is being made to the British Government for the standard-gauge railway from Kantara to Haifa and the branches of that railway to Jerusalem and Beersheba; and whether the Egyptian Government will take over the Kantara-Rafa section, which runs through Egyptian territory?

Mr. WOOD

It is proposed that the capital value of such parts of the railways in Palestine as were constructed by the British military authorities shall be made a charge against the Palestine Government. The properties in question, however, have not yet been valued. As regards the last part of the question, the matter is still under discussion, but the Egyptian Government have not yet agreed to take over the section in question.
