HC Deb 15 June 1921 vol 143 c417
92. Mr. BRIANT

asked the hon. Member for the Pollok Division of Glasgow, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, what is the reason for the large increase in recent years in the Government Hospitality Fund; and whether he will take steps to effect a drastic economy in this Vote?

Sir J. GILMOUR

Expenditure on this service increased during the War, and has been subsequently maintained at a high figure owing to the large number of Conferences and missions which have assembled in this country. Thus, the recent conference during April, at which six Powers were represented, and the forthcoming Imperial Conference, involve a considerable outlay. Close attention is being paid to reduction of expenditure, and it is expected that substantial economies will be effected.
