Mr. BOWERMANasked the Home Secretary if he is aware that the Chief Constable of Portsmouth has addressed a communication to various branch secretaries of labour organisations, requesting to be supplied with the number of members belonging to the unions in the district, to enable him to complete his records at headquarters; whether such circular letter has been issued with his knowledge and approval; and, if so, will he state the purpose for which the information asked for is required?
