HC Deb 01 June 1921 vol 142 c1047
58. Mr. C. WHITE

asked the Chief Secretary whether he can state the number and the nature of the guard usually posted at the Dublin Customs House before it was burned?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

No special guard beyond the ordinary police and military patrols was posted at the Customs House. It was regarded as incredible that any Irishmen would be guilty of wanton destruction of a building which was one of their nation's finest possessions.
