HC Deb 21 February 1921 vol 138 cc537-8
31. Major Sir BERTRAM FALLE

asked the Prime Minister if it is absolutely necessary to take a census of the people this year; if such might be put off for a couple of years with advantage and economy; and if he will consider the matter.

Mr. BONAR LAW

In view of the great changes resulting from the War, I think it is very necessary that a census should be taken this year, and in any case, the arrangements which were confirmed by this House last Session have now gone so far that the cancellation of them is, I think, out of the question.

Lieut. - Commander KENWORTHY

Are you going to persist in taking a census in Ireland in the present circumstances?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Yes.

Lieut.-Colonel MURRAY

Can the right hon. Gentleman say how much it will cost?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I cannot say.
