HC Deb 19 April 1921 vol 140 cc1702-3
27. Lieut.-Colonel JAMES

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, whether he will state the terms on which the hut at present occupied by the Young Men's Christian Association in Trafalgar Square is held; whether other bodies, such as the Salvation Army, have asked for similar sites on like terms; and whether, in view of the fact that the War is over, the time has arrived for the removal of this building?

Sir J. GILMOUR

Permission was given for the Young Men's Christian Association to erect the hut in question at their own expense, without payment of rent, but subject to an undertaking to demolish the building and restore the ground when required. They are already under notice to fulfil this obligation, and the hut will be removed as soon as practicable. Similar facilities have been sought by other bodies, but it was not thought desirable to extend the practice.
