44. Colonel NEWMAN
asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that certain borough councils are insisting as a condition of employment that 1104 employes shall belong to a trade union; whether this action has his approval; and, if not; what steps he proposes to take?
§ Sir A. MOND
The answer to the first question is in the affirmative. I very strongly deprecate the attitude of the councils in question which interferes with the liberty of the subject under what conditions he chooses to obtain employment, but I am advised that I have, unfortunately, no legal powers to act in the matter.
