§ 60. Mr. W. R. SMITHasked the Minister of Health whether the cost of 1102 building houses is being reduced; and, if so, to what extent?
§ Sir A. MONDAlthough the cost of building remains very high, there is no doubt that it is falling, but the extent varies with the districts concerned and the class of materials used. The general average of tenders accepted for houses was £950 in August last, £900 in November, and £855 in March.
§ Mr. SMITHSeeing that this very substantial reduction in the cost of construction has taken place, is it necessary to have that large subsidy?
§ Sir A. MONDThat is one of the questions which I am going to look into.
