HC Deb 12 April 1921 vol 140 cc929-30
71. Earl WINTERTON

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that Mrs. Catherine Murphy, of Shoreham-by-Sea, has been refused a full old age pension on the ground that she has been supported by her daughter until she reached the age of 70; and whether he will state the reasons for this decision?

Lieut.-Commander YOUNG

I am having inquiries made in this case, and will inform my Noble Friend of the result in due course.

Earl WINTERTON

Can the hon. and gallant Gentleman accelerate as much as possible these inquiries, in view of the fact that the local pension committee have unanimously decided against the decision of the Treasury, and that this matter has now been going on for some four or five months?

Lieut.-Commander YOUNG

I will certainly see if the matter can be expedited Sir W. PEARCE: Will the Government consider whether charitable allowances cannot be exempted?

Lieut.-Commander YOUNG

I should require notice of that question.
