HC Deb 12 April 1921 vol 140 cc924-5
Lieut.-Colonel Sir F. HALL

asked the Prime Minister what amount it is estimated by the Allies' expert advisers will be recovered from Germany during the year 1920–21 by the operation of the financial sanctions imposed in consequence of Germany having refused to carry out the provisions of the Versailles Treaty; and whether the present arrangements will be reviewed from time to time, with a view to taking further action to secure the payment of reparations by Germany for the wanton devastation inflicted by her armies on the countries invaded by her in the War, should the measures now being adopted prove inadequate or admit of extensive evasion by the German authorities?

Lieut.-Commander YOUNG

I must refer the hon. and gallant Member to the statement on this subject by the Prime Minister on the 10th March on the discussion of the Foreign Office Vote in the Vote on Account, to which I can add no more detailed particulars by way of estimate.

Sir F. HALL

Is the hon. and gallant gentleman aware that in the reply of the 10th March no figures were given at all, and is it any use putting down questions asking for information if we are not going to get any reply?

Lieut.-Commander YOUNG

It is impossible to give any more detailed estimate at the present time that would be of any value.

Sir F. HALL

That is quite a different reply. I will put my question down again.
