HC Deb 12 April 1921 vol 140 cc895-6
11. Sir R. NEWMAN

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the question of allowing service in the infantry to count towards increased pay and promotion in the Army Pay Corps can be further considered in order that service outside the corps may in some circumstances count towards promotion in that corps?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

It is definitely laid down in the Royal Warrants, relating to Corps in which promotion is by time, that only service in the Corps can count towards promotion. I regret that prior service in the infantry, which does not give the requisite experience in the work of the Army Pay Corps, cannot be allowed to count towards promotion in that Corps.
