HC Deb 26 October 1920 vol 133 c1543
31. Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

asked the Secretary of State for Air what has been the total cost of the aerodrome in Felt-well, Norfolk; how long is it since it was last used; is it going to decay; and what is proposed to be done with it?

Lieut.-Colonel Sir R. SANDERS (Lord of the Treasury)

I have been asked to answer this question. I understand from the Air Ministry that the total cost incurred in connection with the aerodrome at Feltwell was approximately £204,000, but this sum represents considerably more than the cost of the buildings which have been notified to the Disposal Board for sale and has no relation to the present market value of the buildings. The aerodrome ceased to be used on the 26th, March last and was notified to the Disposal Board on the 10th April. In accordance with the usual practice of the Department the buildings were then offered to the landowner and to the Local Authorities for housing purposes, but neither of these parties would entertain the offer. The buildings were then advertised for sale in situ, but, no sale having been effected, they will now be disposed of for removal. All unoccupied buildings suffer to a certain extent from the weather, but no exceptional damage has occurred in this case.
