§ 12. Mr. ALEXANDER SHAWasked the President of the Board of Trade what measures are being taken to deal with mines in the Galston area rendered unworkable by the recent floods.
§ Mr. BRIDGEMANNotwithstanding the serious difficulties to be overcome, good progress is being made with the work of pumping out the accumulation of water and repairing the damage done to the surface works and shafts. The Mines 1308 Department have been in close touch with the situation from the outset, and are lending all the assistance in their power towards expediting the reopening of the mines.
§ Mr. SHAWCan the hon. Gentleman tell us whether there will be a large pumping station which will meet the needs of the area?
§ Mr. BRIDGEMANI do not know whether the arrangements have got as far as that, but I will inquire and let my hon. Friend know.
