HC Deb 20 October 1920 vol 133 cc921-2
Mr. G. BARNES (by Private Notice)

asked the Minister of Labour what arrangements have been made to enable the Employment Exchanges to cope with the heavy amount of emergency work that may fall upon the Employment Exchanges as a consequence of unemployment due to the coal strike?

Sir M. BARLOW

Emergency arrangements to ensure the prompt and smooth payment of Out-of-Work Donation to ex-Service men will be brought into operation from to-morrow, and will continue, if necessary, until 6th November, the date when the special extension of Donation now in force comes to an end. Further consideration is being given to the case of the ex-Service man unemployed as from that date. As regards the Unemployment Benefit under the Insurance Acts, similar plans have been made to prevent delay and dislocation. I will, if I may, circulate with the OFFICIAL REPORT details of these emergency arrangements.
