HC Deb 24 November 1920 vol 135 cc419-20
33. Mr. GALBRAITH

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that at the Gateshead Employment Exchange 615 ex-service men are registered, of whom 214 have never had any work since they were discharged from the forces, while some 381 have had temporary employment; whether there are about 30 girls employed on the Gateshead tramways who could easily be replaced by ex-service men who can only follow light employment; whether the tramway company is still engaging girls in preference to men; and what steps he proposes taking to remedy the situation?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I have asked for a report on the matter to which my hon. Friend refers, and will communicate with him as soon as I receive it.
