HC Deb 24 November 1920 vol 135 c412
23 and 24. Viscountess ASTOR

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty (1) if it is the intention of the Admiralty to adjust the pay of the schoolmaster branch, Royal Navy, in accordance with the pay of civilian teachers, and if the Admiralty is aware that for the first 18 years a schoolmaster, Royal Navy, is paid practically on the provisional minimum scale for teachers in elementary schools, although the instruction given in many naval schools is of a secondary and technical school nature;

(2) Whether, in view of the present high cost of living and the financial straits of many schoolmasters, Royal Navy, he will recommend that, as warrant officers, all naval schoolmasters shall receive the pay and promotion of the mechanical branch of warrant officers?

Sir J. CRAIG

The whole of this matter is now under consideration.
