HC Deb 17 November 1920 vol 134 c1864
20. Mr. ALLEN PARKINSON

asked the Secretary of State for India whether, in view of the fact that the rice harvest, in Burma will be gathered next month, he will instruct the Government of India that if the control of rice be continued a committee, on which the cultivators and Burmese merchants have representation, should be appointed to advise the Rice Controller; and that export licences be issued to Burmese as well as to European merchants?

Mr. MONTAGU

The Government of India are now considering whether the coming Burma rice crop should be controlled and hope to telegraph to me their proposals towards the end of this month. In considering those proposals I shall bear in mind the suggestions of my hon. Friend, consulting, if necessary, the Government of India.
