HC Deb 11 November 1920 vol 134 cc1351-2
46. Mr. RONALD McNEILL

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been drawn to a statement, reported to have been made on the 7th of November by the hon. Member for East Leyton to the effect that 4,000,000 roubles had been raised in Soviet Russia for Sinn Fein in Ireland; whether he has any information confirming the truth of the statement; whether any steps are being taken to prevent or to intercept the transmission of this money from Russia; and whether it is the policy of the Government to open friendly relations, commercial or diplomatic, with a State that is providing large sums of money for assisting a conspiracy to subvert the Government and institutions of this country?

The PRIME MINISTER

There is no confirmation of the statement in the question, but the Government are keeping a close watch on this matter.
