§ 56. Mr. ADAMSONasked the Lord Privy Seal whether the Government will 1180 agree to the appointment of a Select Committee to consider the present allowance made to Members of Parliament in relation to the personal and travelling expenses incurred by them in the course of their Parliamentary duties, and to make recommendations thereon?
§ Mr. BONAR LAWYes, Sir. The Government are prepared to appoint a Select Committee to examine into this question.
§ Mr. MacVEAGHMay I ask whether the setting up of a Committee to consider the increasing of the salaries of Cabinet Ministers, and now the setting up of another Committee to consider the increasing of the salaries of Members of this House, forms part of the policy of economy of the Government?
§ Mr. BONAR LAWI think it would be better to consider first what the Committees say. I would like if I may—
§ Mr. MacVEAGHThe Committee know what they are to say.
§ Mr. BONAR LAWThe leading of the House would be a very simple process if that were true.
