§ 4. Mr. CHARLES EDWARDSasked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can state the extent of the occupation of land in Sicily by the agricultural workers; and whether their seizure of the land has been sanctioned by the Italian Government?
Mr. HARMSWORTHThe occupation of land in Sicily by agricultural workers is reported to have been on a large scale, but I am unable to indicate its exact extent. The Italian Government has issued decrees and is preparing legislation by which the occupation by agricultural associations will be sanctioned and become permanent if certain conditions are fulfilled during the period of two years.
