HC Deb 09 November 1920 vol 134 c995
Mr. PENNEFATHER

(by Private Notice) asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he can give any information regarding the malicious destruction of premises in Abbeydorney, and if he can assign any motive for this crime?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

At 1 a.m. on the 1st instant the licensed premises of Margaret Lovett, Abbeydorney, were maliciously destroyed by fire by a number of unknown men. Following the murder of Constable W. Madden, and the wounding of Constable Corbey, who has since died, the village was in possession of these assassins, the inhabitants having fled in terror, and during this time the destruction was done. Mrs. Lovett's public-house was frequented by the police, and this is the only motive which can be assigned for its destruction.
