HC Deb 11 October 1916 vol 86 cc93-5
The PRIME MINISTER

I beg to move, "That the Proceedings on Government Business be not interrupted this night under the Standing Order (Sittings of the House), and may be entered upon at any hour though opposed."

Mr. ASHLEY

May I ask whether we are to be asked to sit up half the night? Such a Motion is usually left until towards the end of the Session. Perhaps the Prime Minister will inform us why the Motion is put down, and, if he gives necessity as the reason, will he state what Bills he proposes to take?

The PRIME MINISTER

No Bills.

Mr. ASHLEY

I think we require very strong reasons before the Eleven o'clock Rule is suspended.

The PRIME MINISTER

The Motion is strictly in accordance with precedent. All we propose to take are the first three Orders—no Bills at all.

Mr. HOGGE

Can the Prime Minister say, for the convenience of the House, whether we are to sit on Mondays?

The PRIME MINISTER

Not for the present, at any rate.
