§ Mr. H. W. FORSTERIn order to facilitate the arrangement at which we arrived last night, I would suggest to my hon. Friends on this side of the House that we should content ourselves with dividing against the Schedule, and should take the discussion on the Tobacco Duty when the Clause is recommitted, as proposed by the Government.
§ Mr. LLOYD-GEORGEI can only say that if that meets the convenience of right hon. and hon. Gentlemen opposite, I shall be very glad to consent to the arrangement. The suggestion is that hon. Members should be content on the present occasion with dividing on the Schedule, and, that as the Government propose to recommit the Clause on the Report stage, there should be a full discussion on it later on.
§ The CHAIRMANI cannot help thinking that the recommital on the Schedule would be the most convenient plan, because the Amendments could then be moved as they have been put down.
§ Mr. WILLIAM REDMONDCan the right hon. Gentleman give us any indication of the date when the Clause is likely to be recommitted?
§ Mr. LLOYD-GEORGEI have not had an opportunity of consulting the authorities of the House, but, subject to that, I should think the recommital would come before we take the Report stage of the Bill. In that case it will be taken the first thing on Tuesday week, October 19.
§ Mr. RENWICKI think it would be for the convenience of the Committee if we knew whether the Government are going to commit the Clause and the Schedule as well.
§ Mr. LLOYD-GEORGEI think, if I may say so, following the suggestion of the 2155 Chairman, that the best course we could take would be to recommit the Schedule, because every point can be raised on the Schedule.
§ Mr. RENWICKI do not mind, so long
§ as it is understood what the Government intend doing.
