To ask the Minister for Women what action she is taking to encourage teenage girls to participate in politics. [189167]

Ms Hewitt

I am delighted to say that "Citizenship" is now taught in all schools, as part of the National Curriculum, to develop young people's knowledge and understanding of their roles, rights and responsibilities in relation to the democratic process, including the electoral system and the importance of voting.

The Women and Equality Unit produced last year a special resource pack for teachers and young people that includes ideas on how to cover women's equality issues in Citizenship classes.
