HL Deb 01 February 2005 vol 669 cc35-6WA
Lord Patten

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Further to the Written Answer by Lord Davies of Oldham on 20 January (WA 128), what is their estimate of the costs involved in modernising the single-track line on the railway between Salisbury and Yeovil to double-track. [HL934]

Lord Davies of Oldham

The Strategic Rail Authority advises that no specific assessment has been made of the cost of modernising the line between Salisbury and Yeovil only. However, in 2000–01 as part of a wider commercial proposition which was not pursued, route modernisation of the line from Salisbury to Exeter was estimated at over £100 million.
