§ Miss Melanie Johnson"Towards cleaner hospitals and lower infection rates" presented an update of action by the Department en the issues of hospital cleanliness and infection control. The report set out the most up to date progress on several initiatives which were already in the public domain, including a number which had been included in "Winning Ways", published in December 2003. The report also included several new initiatives, 1951W such as the target for reducing rates of MRSA infections, publication of surveillance by trusts, a science summit, the matron's charter and a new model cleaning contract.
