HL Deb 17 May 2004 vol 661 cc72-3WA
Baroness Finlay of Llandaff

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How they plan to take forward the recommendation from Sir John Pattison's working group on research for patients' benefits. [HL2759]

Lord Warner

The final report of the Research for Patient Benefit Working Party chaired by Sir John Pattison will be published shortly on the Department of Health's website. The report will make a range of recommendations for the strengthening of clinical research in the United Kingdom. In March the Secretary of State for Health announced additional funding for National Health Service research and development of £25 million each year for the next four years and the creation of a new UK clinical research collaboration involving patients, the NHS, the Medical Research Council, the Wellcome Trust, the medical charities and industry. A further announcement will be made following publication of the report.
