HL Deb 27 October 2003 vol 654 c22WA
Earl Attlee

asked Her Majesty's Government:

On how many occasions, in the last 12 months for which figures are available, "points failure" has been the cause of recorded delays on the railways. [HL4836]

Lord Davies of Oldham

Network Rail recorded a total of 10,839 incidents of points failure which caused delays in the financial year 2002-03. The total number of incidents is not a reliable indicator of the extent of delays from this cause. Disruption arising from an individual incident can vary from a few minutes to several hours. A more detailed breakdown of the nature of each individual incident is not readily available.
